Catholic - Beginner Comparing Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Bibles
A very helpful chart prepared by Prof. Felix Just, S.J., of Loyola Marymount University.

Catholic - Intermediate The Canon of Scripture
A fine treatment of the concept and history of the biblical canon. By Father William Most, originally written for the New Catholic Encyclopedia. Also good is:
- *The New Testament Canon

The Development of the New Testament Canon
A very good overview site. Provides details on various sources and authorities from the early Church; tables depicting the reception of various texts as divinely "inspired"; a discussion of various heresies in the early Church and a list of texts found not to be inspired by early Church authorities.

Catholic - Intermediate Authorship, Inerrancy, and Historicity of Scripture
Father William Most's ambitious attempt to tackle the most provocative and difficult concepts in Scripture. Includes a strong critique of directions in Scripture interpretation following the Second Vatican Council.

Catholic - Intermediate The Truth and Salvific Purpose of Sacred Scripture According to Dei Verbum, no. 11
A very helful treatment from the Roman Theological Forum.

Catholic - Intermediate The Authority of Scripture
An insightful study by Joseph T. Lienhard, S.J.  A quote: "Authority, as it is used here, may be defined as the legitimate power to command assent.  In the case of Scripture, the power is legitimate because it respects the freedom of the one who assents.  But authority is indeed power: in this case, the power of the truth, for it is the truth that commands assent.  Yet to assent to the truth of Scripture is an act of faith, and faith is a gift.  Thus it is grace that enables us to assent to the truth of the Scriptures.  God commands us to assent to the truth of the Scriptures, but that assent is possible only when God gives us the grace of faith to do so."
